The LCMS National Housing Support Corporation’s (NHSC) first grant cycle of the new year is now open. From today through midnight (12:00 a.m. EST) on April 1, 2015, NHSC will be accepting applications in three of our grant program categories – feasibility studies, domestic grants, and servant events. Brief descriptions with links to the various application packets for these grants are provided below.

Please note that, because of funding restrictions, NHSC will only be able to make awards to projects that focus on providing affordable housing services to elderly residents or households.

Feasibility Study Grants

Maximum Request Amount: $5,000

Grants for feasibility studies support preliminary research into housing or community development opportunities around a congregation or organization. Presently, only elderly housing feasibility studies can be funded through this program. An elderly housing feasibility study is defined as research conducted for the purpose of determining the possibility and potential of an elderly housing project. The supported feasibility study must include information on market area, detail overview of current senior housing providers, definition of recommended pricing structures and fees, the projected market support for the project, demographics of the market, economic impact of the project on the area, and a conclusion as to whether or not the project would be suitable for the area and be able to support itself financially. Preference is given to projects where a feasibility study is a recommended “next step,” based on a recommendation from the corporation’s staff.

Servant Event Grants

Maximum Request Amount: $3,000

Are you thinking about creating a servant event to rehab a home in your community? Our servant event grants are available to LCMS congregations or organizations that want to organize volunteers to conduct community beautification or light home rehab work. Presently, these grants are available only for projects that focus on elderly housing needs in the United States.

Please note that the application packet for Servant Event program is very similar to the Domestic Grant application packet. Consequently, please consult the Domestic Grant application walkthrough (included in the application packet) for additional clarification on Servant Event application’s questions.

Domestic Grants

Maximum Request Amount: $10,000

The LCMS National Housing Support Corporation’s domestic grants program provides support directly to housing and community development work in communities where our partners are active. Domestic grants are intended to support direct project costs (construction-related labor and material expenses, community organizing training, etc.) for community development work. Presently, these grants are available only for projects that focus on elderly housing needs in the United States.

Please visit our main Grant Programs page to learn about the restrictions and giving focuses of this round. Also, please note that funds are currently only available for projects that support the housing needs of elderly individuals and households.
