“WHAT IS IT TO SERVE GOD AND TO DO His will? Nothing else than to show mercy to our neighbor. For it is our own neighbor who needs our service; God in heaven needs it not.”

Martin Luther

While the balance of the Lutheran “universe” is observing the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, it seems appropriate that the LCMS National Housing Support Corporation (NHSC) would focus on what the sainted reformer had to say about the work of mercy.

I know that when my family and friends give me a gift or demonstrate their love for me, I am motivated to do the same. Birthday and anniversary presents, Christmas gifts; it doesn’t matter the reason, one gift seems to inspire another.

Inspired by the Gospel, God’s people are inspired to respond to God’s grace. But, as Dr. Luther reminds us, God in heaven doesn’t need our service. Our neighbors, especially those in communities struggling under the weight of poverty and crime, or unsafe and unhealthy living environments, need our service.

We have been blessed to help some incredible partners, some whose stories are included in this edition of our newsletter. There are more we could help, if they only knew about the services that NHSC provides to make housing ministry possible! Be sure to check out the latest information on our website, www.nationalhousingsupport.org, or check out our posts on Facebook (www.facebook.com/LutheranHousingSupport). Also, be sure to share a link or a post with a friend.

Please pray for those whom we serve, and that our service will demonstrate clearly the love of God in Christ!

In Christ’s Service,

Nicole Ridley
Chief Executive
LCMS National Housing Support Corporation
