When LCMS National Housing Support Corporation (NHSC) Board member, Alan Doud, and his wife, Kristen, were looking for a way to increase the impact of their gift, the opportunity was as close as Kristen’s employer and its corporate matching gift program. As a result, their gift to support the work of NHSC was doubled by the PG&E Corporate Foundation.

The process was simple. Kristen completed a one-page form at work; the Doud’s sent the form along with their gift to NHSC. We certified the gift and sent it to the corporate foundation representative. Within a couple of weeks, a check equal to the amount of their gift was on its way to NHSC.

“Employer matches are tremendously helpful to non-profits and are typically fairly easy for employees to access. They are the quintessential ‘why not?’” said Alan of matching gift programs. More than 1,400 US companies have matching gift programs. They are a simple way for a company to align their philanthropic priorities with that of their greatest asset — their employees.

Currently, anyone who has supported the work of NHSC can take advantage of a Challenge Grant offered NHSC by the Thrivent Financial Foundation. When your congregation joins the NHSC Congregational Support Network, any gift made by congregation or its members qualifies for a 50% match: a $500 gift is increased to $750; a $2,000 gift to $3,000.
