Rehabilitation Program

Many of College Hill’s long-time residents are elderly and living on a fixed income. Because of physical disabilities or a lack of funds, they cannot afford to perform maintenance on their homes. To address this neighborhood need, the LCMS National Housing Support Corporation (NHSC) has partnered with a variety of funders and Riverview West Florissant Community Development Corporation to perform much needed repairs on local homes in the College Hill community. To date, more than 70 homes have received vital repairs including plumbing, carpentry, electrical work, the installation of stair rails, ramps, and new roofs.

When funding is available, an average of two homes per month are repaired and/or rehabbed. Work is often limited to minor repairs and or rehab such as electrical, plumbing, rails, steps, gates, tuck pointing, and painting. In many cases, the repair work is conducted by local skilled labor in College Hill (under the supervision of a licensed contractor). Work that requires more extensive licensing is performed by a licensed contractor and reduced rates are negotiated when possible.
